Directions from I-40:
Take exit 80B, heading north on the 45 Bypass. Continue
north past the next two lights (near Union University and on Oilwell Road), and
after a stretch of highway, you will reach the intersection of Old Humboldt
Road. Take a left at the light from the bypass onto Old Humboldt Road, and
continue heading on Old Humboldt Road past Pope Elementary school (which will
be on your left), and after passing a few houses, the STAR Center will be on
your left.

THE STAR CENTER PROGRAMS:
Art Therapy - Uses the creative process of art making to
improve physical, mental, and emotional well-being; helps to resolve conflicts,
develop interpersonal skills, increase self-esteem, reduce stress, and achieve
insight. Therapists use art and art
related strategies to impact clients’ cognitive, physical, communication, and
emotional outcomes.
Assistive Technology Evaluations and Training - Provides
technology and software options to enable a child or adult with a disability to
learn effectively, to work, or to live independently.
Augmentative Communication Evaluation and Training -
Provides individuals with communication disorders an alternative method of
communication. Includes evaluation to select the appropriate communication
device, customization, and training on the device.
Employment Services - Assist people with disabilities in
preparing for and obtaining employment. Includes soft skill training; follow
along services, and may include job coaching services, if needed.
Home Care - Provides a care professional who allows an
individual to stay in their home by offering services such as household chores,
daily living activities, and respite care.
We tailor the services that are provided to each client according to
their desires and needs.
Job Tracks/Computer Application Training - Teaches the use
of workplace software in order for clients to reach their goals of
employment. Training is self-paced with
training materials targeting basic computer skills along with intensive soft
skills development.
Music Therapy - Uses music and music related strategies to
assist or motivate a person towards specific non-musical goals. Therapists use music and musical instruments
in a one-on-one and group settings to effect changes in clients’ cognitive,
physical, communication, social, and emotional skills.
Outreach and Information - Provides information about
services available for children and adults with disabilities or special needs
throughout the West Tennessee community
Personal Assistance and Nursing Services - Provides direct
care services to people with disabilities and seniors to help them live in
their own home. Includes personal care,
bathing/dressing, exercise, meal preparation, housekeeping and respite care.
Play Attention - Play Attention advances upon the same
technology NASA astronauts and US Air Force pilots use to stay attentive in the
cockpit. The sensor loaded helmet empowers clients to actually control the Play
Attention computer games by mind alone. The Play Attention games help increase
attention and improve behavior. It is so much fun, clients may forget how
useful and practical it really is.
Prevocational Training - Provides introduction to the
computer, soft skill and academic training.
The Learning Lab - Provides an interactive learning place
where children and adults, their families, professionals in education,
rehabilitation, and health services explore the many uses of computers for
people with disabilities.
Vision Services - Provides assistance to adults and children
with visual impairment to assist them in learning, working, and/or living
independently. Includes orientation and
mobility evaluation and training to enable individuals to develop or enhance
their ability to travel safely and independently. Includes low vision services
to assist individuals to use their remaining vision as effectively as possible.
Vocational Assessments - Assessment to identify an
individual's job-related strengths, aptitudes, and interests.
